Caravanning with Kids at Easter: Our Favourite Easter Camping Traditions

Every Easter our campsite turns into a bit of organised chaos.

Kids running around with chocolate on their faces, someone yelling "the dog is going to die" because he found 80% of the eggs we stashed, all while we are just trying to drink our first coffee before it goes cold.

But honesty... that's the magic of caravanning with kids. Isn't it....

Easter camping has become one of our favourite family traditions, and it's something I see happening across the whole Mums Who Caravan and Camp community

If you're planning camping at Easter with kids, adding a few simple activities can turn your trip into something really special.

From Easter egg hunts around the caravan to decorating eggs under the awning, here are a few ways to make Easter camping unforgettable for you and the kids.

And to make things easier, we've also created a free Easter camping activity download you can print before your trip.

Why Easter is One of the Best Times for Caravanning with Kids

There's something about Easter camping that just feels right.

The weather is usually cooler than summer, the long weekend makes it easy to escape, and campsites all around Australia are full of families doing exactly the same thing - making memories outdoors.

In our community, I see mums posting every year about their Easter trips.

Some head to the coast, some find a quiet bush camp, and others meet up with family and friends at parks but they all have something in common, the make a whole long weekend of it.

One thing is always the same.

Kids everywhere running around the campsite having the time of their lives. And it's just magic.

And if you've ever gone camping at Easter, you'll know that a few simple activities can make the whole trip more fun for them.

Pack Smart for Easter Camping with Kids

One thing I've learned over the years is that when you're caravanning with kids, they will spend almost every minute outdoors, and one big win for our family is less nagging for screen time.

They're climbing trees, riding bikes, making new friends and basically living their best feral camping life.

Which is exactly how it should be.

But it also means making sure they're comfortable and protected from the sun, even in autumn.

Many mums in our community pack lightweight UPF50+ long sleeve shirts for their kids because they protect them from the sun while still being breathable enough for warm camping days.

We love our Kids Fishing Shirts and can report that our kids live in them year round.

5 Easter Camping Activities Kids Absolutely Love

Over the years, these are some of the favourite Easter camping traditions families in our community love doing with their kids.

They're simple, fun, and require very little planning.

Which is exactly what you want when your camping.

1. The Campsite Easter Egg Hunt

You can't go camping at Easter without doing an Easter egg hunt.

And honestly, doing it around a campsite makes it even more fun.

Instead of hiding eggs inside your house, you suddenly have trees, rocks, caravans and picnic tables to hide them around.

Some of our favourite hiding spots include:

  • Under camping chairs
  • Behind and in tree branches
  • Along walking tracks
  • In shoes
  • Under the bbq lid

The kids absolutely love running around the campsite looking for their chocolate treasures.

One thing a lot of mums in our community do is add bunny footprints leading to the eggs.

Kmart has some great ones that make it super easy.

2. Easter Activity Books for Quiet Camp Time

As much as kids love running wild around the campsite, there are always those moments where you need something quiet to keep them entertained and we love opting for device free time when we can.

Maybe it's raining.

Maybe they just need some time out.

Maybe you're cooking dinner.

Or maybe you just want five minutes to sit down in peace.

That's where Easter activity books come in handy.

  • Colouring pages
  • Word searches
  • Easter puzzles
  • Maze games

To help make it easier for families, we've created a free Easter camping activity pack you can download and print before your trip.

Perfect for keeping little campers busy during those quieter moments.

3. Egg Decorating Under the Awning

This one is always a hit.

You can keep it really simple with:

  • Paint pens
  • Markers
  • Stickers
  • Washable paints

Set up a little craft station under the caravan awning and let the kids get creative.

Before long you'll have a whole collection of colourful Easter eggs.

And the best part?

The kids are busy, which means mum might actually get to enjoy a hot cross bun and coffee while it's still hot.

4. Easter Bunny Nature Hunt

This activity is perfect for kids who love to explore.

Instead of a normal scavenger hunt, turn it into an Easter bunny nature hunt

Create a simple list of things kids need to find around the campsite:

  • A feather
  • A gum leaf
  • A smooth rock
  • Something yellow
  • A stick shaped like bunny ears

It turns a simple walk around the campsite into a mini adventure.

And it gets kids noticing all the little things in nature they might otherwise miss.

5. Campfire Easter Story Time

Once the sun goes down and the campfire is going, it's the perfect time for family story time.

Kids love sitting around the fire and sharing stories.

Some families read Easter stories, while others talk about their favourite camping memories.

You can even ask the kids questions like:

"Where do you think the Easter Bunny camps?"

It sounds simple, but these quiet moments around the fire often become the ones kids remember the most.

Camping Essentials for Caravanning with Kids

When you're off on an Easter camping trip. a few simple things can make life a lot easier.

For many families in our community, these are always on the packing list:

  • Comfortable outdoor clothing
  • Sun protection for long days outside
  • Easy activities for kids
  • Layers for cooler evenings

When you're camping with kids, having the right layers makes all the difference. Lightweight fishing shirts are perfect for sunny days exploring, and a Moodie is always a winner when the temperature drops in the evening.

Creating Easter Camping Traditions

Once of the best parts about camping at Easter is the traditions you create as a family.

It might be:

  • The annual campsite Easter egg hunt
  • Decorating eggs under the caravan awning
  • Sharing hot cross buns around the fire
  • Watching the kids explore nature

These little moments become the memories your kids talk about for years.

And honestly, there's nothing better than watching them run around the campsite with chocolate on the faces and dirt everywhere else.

That's the real magic of caravanning with kids.
