Mindful Colouring for Mums - And a Free Download to Prove We Mean It

You know that feeling at the end of a long day at the campsite - the kids are finally in their sleeping bags, the fire is glowing, and you're sitting there just wanting to enjoy the moment, no interruptions, just you.

That's exactly the moment this is for.

We've put together a free mindful colouring download for mums who need a proper reset - not a scroll through Instagram, not another podcast, just a quiet moment that's entirely yours. Keep reading for why this kind of slow, intentional activity is genuinely good for you (backed by more than just "it feels nice").

This is the real reason for this blog. I lost myself along the way and now I'm here

Why Mindful Colouring Is More Than Just a Pretty Pattern

There's a reason adult colouring books flew off the shelves a few years back — and it wasn't just a trend. Focusing on filling in a pattern forces your brain to slow down. You can't spiral through tomorrow's to-do list when you're deciding which shade of teal goes best with burnt orange.

For mums especially, the mental load is relentless. Trip planning, school schedules, which kid forgot their hat, what's for dinner at the campsite. Mindful colouring gives your brain a single, gentle task to focus on — and that's actually enough to shift your nervous system out of overdrive.

In our MWCAC community, we hear it constantly: mums who love camping but struggle to actually rest when they're there. We pack activities for the kids but nothing for ourselves. This is your permission slip to pack something just for you.

What Makes It "Mindful" - Not Just Colouring

Regular colouring is lovely. Mindful colouring takes it a step further by pairing the activity with intention.

Our free download includes affirmations woven into each design — gentle reminders that sit right there in the pattern as you colour. Things like you are enough and rest is productive and this moment is yours.

The idea is simple: as you move through the pattern, the words land differently than if you just read them on a screen. You're sitting with them. You're colouring around them. By the time you've finished a page, those words have had time to actually settle.

It's not woo-woo. It's just giving your brain a softer place to land.

How to Actually Use This (Even With Kids Around)

You don't need a solo weekend away to use this — though if you can swing it, absolutely do.

Here's what's actually worked for mums in our community:

  • After kids' bedtime at camp — even 20 minutes by torch or a small lantern is enough to decompress properly before sleep
  • During afternoon quiet time — if your kids are old enough to have independent play, this is your non-negotiable window
  • On a rainy day at the caravan — everyone's stuck inside anyway, set the kids up with their own colouring and do yours alongside them
  • On the drive home — as a passenger, obviously (please and thank you)

The key is treating it like an actual appointment with yourself, not something you'll do "if there's time." There won't be time unless you make it.

Print it at home before your next trip, tuck it in your camp bag, and bring a small tin of coloured pencils. That's all you need.

Share your finished pages in the MWCAC Facebook community - we'd genuinely love to see them.

Before You Pack the Car...

  1. Print before you go — don't rely on campsite WiFi or printing on the road
  2. Pack a small pencil tin — you don't need much, 12 colours is plenty
  3. Tell someone you're doing it — accountability works even for small things
  4. Let it be imperfect — there is no wrong way to colour. Seriously.
  5. Do one page, not all of them — starting small means you'll actually finish
